Actor Saravanan “Surya” Sivakumar was born on July 23, 1975 to famous tamil actor Sivakumar. He is the eldest of three children, his younger brother the actor Karthik Sivakumar and a younger sister named Brindha Sivakumar.
Surya studied at St. Bede’s School in Chennai and graduated from Loyola College with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and worked for a few years in the garment industry, before foraying into the film industry. Actor Surya and Actor Vijay are classmates in college.
Actor started his film carrier in Nerrukku Ner (1997) with Actor Vijay. Later he starred in Friends and Nandha, for which he received a Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor. Nandha movie turned out be a milestone movie in his carrier since it brought out Surya’s acting talents. Surya’s next venture was with Vikraman in the movie Unnai Ninaithu which was followed by Mounam Pesiyadhe.
Kaaka Kaaka, a movie about the life of a police officer was the turning point of his carrier. The movie become a big Box Office hit and in that movie he paired up with Jyothika. Pithamagan, in which Surya was played a happy-go-lucky village guy in a comedic role. In the movie Perazhagan, Surya acted in two roles, one as a boxer and the other as a handicapped but a confident phone booth keeper for which he received a Filmfare Award for Best Actor. His role in Aayitha Ezhuthu was George Reddy, a student leader in Hyderabad during 80’s.
In 2005, Surya appeared in Aaru and Ghajini and set up a production company called Studio Green which distributed the movie in the Chennai district. Surya played a short term memory loss patient. Surya’s 2006 release was Sillunu Oru Kaadhal and he acted with his real-life partner Jyothika in the film. In 2007, Surya’s solitary release was Vel. He later appered in Vaaranam Aayiram, another venture with Gautham Menon, released on November 14, 2008, which too went to became an big Box Office Hit.
Surya’s latest movie is Ayan directed by K. V. Anand, and it was released on April 3rd 2009 and the movie went on to become one of the biggest hits Kollywood movies of 2009. Following Ayan, Surya did Aadhavan with directer K. S. Ravikumar, and followed by Singam with director Hari. Surya also did the movie 7aam Arivu which was released on 26th of October 2011 for Deepaval.
Actor Surya fell in love with actress Jyothika and they got married on September 11, 2006. In 2007, the couple had a cute daughter named Diya.
