Professional Career
Surya made his debut in”Nerrukku Ner: (1997) with Vijay. He breezed in as the charming boy next door in that movie. “Nerrukuk Ner” , directed by Vasanth was a big hit, but for a couple of years, his films came and went without a trace.His success began with the movie Poovellam Kettuppar in 1999. His “Friends” was an average hit.

Director Bala turned Surya into the memorable “Nandha”. It was one of Surya’s best films. This film gave way to him for a successful film career. The film grossed Rs.50 lakhs at the box office.Surya’s next venture was with Vikraman in the movie Unnai Ninathu and the movie was able to record good collections. This was followed by Mounam Pesiyadhe which also did decently well. Surya’s second blockbuster was Kaaka Kaaka, a movie about the life of a police officer. The film grossed almost Rs.100 million at the box office. Also Pithamagan alongside Vikram was a big hit, Surya was appreciated for being a very different character.

In the movie Perazhagan, Surya acted in two roles, one as a boxer and the other as a handicapped, but a confident phone booth keeper. His role as the handicapped was praised by critics, and he received a Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance. His role in Aayitha Ezhuthu as a student leader was also favoured by the critics. His movie Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikkalam was dropped due to financial problems.

In 2005, Surya delivered more successful films in the form of Aaru and Ghajini – afterwards he set up a production company called Studio Green which distributed the movie in the Chennai district. Ghajini was one of the most sensational hits of 2005, with Surya playing a short term memory loss patient, for which he even tonsured his head. Surya’s 2006 hit was N. Krishna’s Sillunu Oru Kaadhal. He acted opposite his real-life partner Jyothika in the film. The movie released on September 8 2006. The movie was an average grosser.Surya has signed up to Vaaranam Aayiram directed by Gautham Menon and Vel directed by Hari kumar .

Surya biography

Actor Saravanan “Surya” Sivakumar was born on July 23, 1975 to famous tamil actor Sivakumar. He is the eldest of three children, his younger brother the actor Karthik Sivakumar and a younger sister named Brindha Sivakumar.

Surya studied at St. Bede’s School in Chennai and graduated from Loyola College with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and worked for a few years in the garment industry, before foraying into the film industry. Actor Surya and Actor Vijay are classmates in college.

Actor started his film carrier in Nerrukku Ner (1997) with Actor Vijay. Later he starred in Friends and Nandha, for which he received a Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor. Nandha movie turned out be a milestone movie in his carrier since it brought out Surya’s acting talents. Surya’s next venture was with Vikraman in the movie Unnai Ninaithu which was followed by Mounam Pesiyadhe.

Kaaka Kaaka, a movie about the life of a police officer was the turning point of his carrier. The movie become a big Box Office hit and in that movie he paired up with Jyothika. Pithamagan, in which Surya was played a happy-go-lucky village guy in a comedic role. Following Ayan, Surya did Aadhavan with directer K. S. Ravikumar, and followed by Singam with director Hari. Surya also did the movie 7aam Arivu which was released on 26th of October 2011 for Deepaval.
